Herpes results from infection with the herpes simplex virus (HSV). It causes symptoms that include tingling, itching, or burning and subsequently, sores or blisters in and around the mouth or genitals.
There are two types of Herpes Simplex Virus. HSV-1 causes oral herpes, which usually affects the mouth and surrounding skin. Whereas, HSV-2 causes genital herpes, which is usually sexually transmitted.
Another type of herpes called herpes zoster may be confused with this kind of virus which occurs with reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus. It is usually a painful but self-limited dermatomal rash. Symptoms typically start with pain along the affected dermatome, which is followed in 2-3 days by a vesicular eruption.
Homeopathic treatment for shingles works in a gentle, yet effective manner to reduce the severity of the symptoms and also help clear up the infection rather than suppressing it. These medicines have no side effects and work very well for post-herpetic neuralgia.
